Laurie Koorhan, DVM
Dr. Koorhan’s interest in veterinary medicine began as a high school student working in a pet store. In college she attended a class entitled “Veterinary Hospital Practice,” taught at a large veterinary referral practice in Southern California. After completing this course she joined the staff of the hospital, developing her skills as a technician. It soon became clear that a career in veterinary medicine was the path she wanted to take, and from that point on she focused her studies on fulfilling the education and work requirements needed for acceptance into veterinary school.
In 1985, Dr. Koorhan was accepted to the University of California at Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. In 1989 she graduated and completed an internship program at Coast Pet Clinic of Hermosa Beach, California. There she furthered her knowledge and experience in the fields of internal medicine, surgery, oncology, emergency and general medicine.
In 1991, Dr. Koorhan and her family opened Doctors Pet Clinic in Murrieta, California. In 2004, doors to a beautiful new building opened allowing her practice of medicine to continue to grow, keeping up with new advances in medicine and technology to ensure the very best for your pet.
Amber Brown, DVM
Dr. Brown grew up in southern California and since she was 5 years old she dreamed of becoming a veterinarian to help animals and the people who love them. She remained focused and earned an animal science degree with a concentration in pre-veterinary medicine from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 2004. She went on to receive her doctorate in veterinary medicine from the only veterinary school in southern California, Western University of Health Sciences, in 2009.
Dr. Brown was immediately accepted into the respected internship at California Animal Hospital in Los Angeles and trained under the guidance of multiple specialists in such areas including internal medicine, surgery, cardiology, emergency medicine, and neurology.
While at Doctors Pet Clinic, Dr. Brown has further developed her skills and interest in dentistry, having the privilege of learning from veterinary dental specialists. She also has a strong special interest in small pocket pets after rescuing two rabbits while in college. She is currently the proud guardian to her two cats, “Pinky” and “Junior”.
Technicians and Assistants
Amanda started her career in the human health field 15 years ago interning as a Certified Nurse Assistant in an elderly care facility. Concurrently, Amanda began her career in veterinary medicine as a technician assistant in a small animal hospital in Laguna Niguel, CA. It was during this time she realized she had a natural aptitude and drive for animal medicine. Upon this realization, she immediately changed her career path to animal medicine and grew to become a highly trained veterinary technician. Since joining the Doctors Pet Clinic team in 2017 she has brought an invaluable calm presence to our hospital, and we look forward to her many years here. When Amanda isn’t playing with dogs and cats at the clinic she’s relaxing with her husband Ryan, stepson Matthew, and her Pitbull named Chance.
Laurel’s interest in the animal industry began when she was seven years old and rode her first horse. She decided at that point that she would volunteer for horse rescues in Las Vegas, Nevada to gain invaluable knowledge on the behavior, training, and medical needs of horses. From there she began to take show jumping lessons to pursue her dreams of competing in local shows. In 2016 she also pursued her passion in the fashion industry by enrolling in college for fashion design. Laurel is also taking classes to become a veterinary assistant to enable her to practice her two passions simultaneously. Laurel joined the Doctors Pet Clinic team in early 2020 and brought her warm and friendly personality, compassion, and sense of style with her! She can always be found riding her horse, cuddling with her little Doxie Chuchu, at her sewing desk, or at our front desk alongside her favorite feline, Frankie.
Paloma started her career in the animal industry in 2009 when she enrolled in a grooming program with Animal Behavior College. From there, she volunteered at the local animal shelter for nine months to gain knowledge and work with underprivileged animals. She not only refined her grooming ability, but she also gained invaluable experience when it came to assessing pre-existing injuries, skin conditions, and other important health issues that may affect a pet’s overall health. She then had the opportunity to work side by side with a mentor to perfect her talent and technique. She graduated in 2010 as a Certified Professional Pet Groomer. After that she realized she wanted to learn more, and enrolled in a Vet Assisting program from Animal Behavior College. In 2015 she was hired at a local animal hospital. She has spent the last 5 years learning animal medicine, and combining it with her knowledge of grooming. She couldn’t be happier to have joined the team here at, Doctors Pet Clinic, where the health and safety of each patient is always put first. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, fostering, writing, dancing and spending time with her family and her dog Bella.
Spencer joined the Doctors Pet Clinic team in 2016 as a technician assistant while attending high school and participating in cross country running competitions in which he medaled. Not only did Spencer complete his races with grace and efficiency, he learned the importance of perseverance, dedication, and responsibility. These attributes carried over to his role at Doctors Pet Clinic in which he is a stellar part of our veterinary staff. During his employment as a veterinary technician, Spencer decided to embark on becoming a certified EMT and first responder in the human health field. In March 2020 Spencer completed his studies and received his certification. In the midst of the pandemic, Spencer has taken on more responsibility at Doctors Pet Clinic as he was so needed to help with our patient care. His love and compassion for animals, together with his warm and friendly disposition are much-needed prerequisites to successfully caring for our patients. We see a very bright and successful future for Spencer, whether it be in the human or veterinary medical field, or both!
I am so excited to be back with the amazing Doctor’s Pet Clinic staff after leaving in 2003 to be a stay at home mom. I have missed working with all the wonderful animals and their great owners. At home we have our sweet Spike and Jaxxx.
